Fixing Our Road — Together

A community effort to repair and maintain the roads of Pinabete.
We’re neighbors organizing to make the roads safer, smoother, and more accessible — for all of us.

Updates

Our $40,000 Goal includes:

  • Hiring Andamo Sanchez and crew to supervise the roadbuilding and provide equipment and skilled labor.
  • Belly dumps of quality material from MTC  to increase the level of the road by 9″ at a width of 16′ and 5/8 of a mile.
  • Bar ditches for drainage.
  • 6 culverts at driveway entry points where currently rainwater spills out into the center of the road.
  • Grading to create a crown to divert water away from the center of the road.
  • Compacting with a roller for durability.

Our $5,000 Goal includes:

  • Using volunteer neighbor help  to crew and supervise the roadbuilding and provide equipment and labor.
  • A blend of material,  some extracted from clearing current drainage, 150 yds of Red River Road washout material ($300) delivered free by Entact, as much material as we can afford, either from Ortega Gravel or MTC, some pit run and some base coarse.
  • Equipment rentals for delivery of material (dump trucks, if not included), grader to pull material from the side to build up the road and encourage bar ditches, blade to smooth, roller to pack.
  • Neighbor expertise and equipment to rough out the road for the fine work at the end.
  • Bar ditches for drainage, and a crown to direct the water into the bar ditches.
  • Compacting with a roller for durability.

The Long View

Let's get Taos County to take over the road. Do you want Llano to become a county road? It can happen, but will take years.

What’s the Problem?

Dirt roads in the Pinabete area — from the end of the Llano Road pavement to Camino Refugio and beyond — are getting harder to drive every year. Washouts, potholes, erosion, and poor drainage make it tough for residents, delivery drivers, propane trucks, and emergency vehicles.

For decades, neighbors have done what they could. But individual efforts aren’t enough to solve a problem this big.

What’s the Solution?

We’re organizing as a grassroots, informal group with one shared goal: better roads.

We’re calling this effort Pinabete Roads. It’s not a formal association. There are no dues, rules, or restrictions. Just people pulling together to improve access and safety in our shared mountain community.
